“This study presents TEM PSHA2025, the latest generation of the national probabilistic seismic hazard model for Taiwan. The model incorporates major updates in earthquake catalogs, onshore and offshore seismogenic structures, multiple-structure rupture scenarios, subduction-zone sources, ground-motion model weighting, and updated site-condition information.
[Their stated] particularly meaningful milestone is that TEM PSHA2025 has been incorporated into the new generation of the GEM Global Seismic Hazard Map v2026.1, contributing Taiwan’s updated national seismic hazard model to the global seismic hazard assessment framework [2nd link above/]…
[The authors] hope that these outcomes will benefit not only researchers, policymakers, engineers, and the public in Taiwan, but also stakeholders around the world working toward earthquake resilience…”

“HIGHLIGHTS:
• TEM PSHA2025 is the new version of PSHA for Taiwan.
• Expands coverage to 320 kilometres and integrates multiple international earthquake catalogs.
• Using updated on-land and new identified offshore seismogenic structures.
• Updated ground motion models and site effects are systematically reassessed.
• Results support seismic mitigation and engineering applications in Taiwan.
ABSTRACT: The Taiwan Earthquake Model (TEM) has released two probabilistic seismic hazard assessments (PSHA) for Taiwan, namely TEM PSHA2015 and TEM PSHA2020. Building upon these efforts and advances achieved over the past several years, this study develops TEM PSHA2025, the latest generation of the national seismic hazard model for Taiwan. This model incorporates several major updates. The updated model expands the study area from the vicinity of Taiwan to encompass a radius of 320 km, integrates multiple international earthquake catalogs, refines on-land and offshore seismogenic structures with multiple-structure rupture models and adopts time-dependent recurrence through the Brownian passage time model. In addition, recent Taiwan-specific and global ground motion models (GMMs) are systematically selected and weighted, and site effects are reassessed using the updated average shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m (VS30) database. Compared with previous versions, TEM PSHA2025 provides a more rigorous treatment of epistemic uncertainties and produces updated hazard maps for Taiwan. These advancements offer a robust scientific foundation for seismic disaster mitigation, regulatory compliance, and engineering applications...”
